Verizon denies the allegations, saying it is committed to maintaining reliable service in rural parts of the state. Verizon said it has continued to invest in its network because of “fierce competition for communication services” throughout the state.
I’m automatically inclined not to believe Verizon on that, but that’s not the bit I’d like to point out – “fierce competition for communication services” is. The past two places I’ve lived have had a single provider for internet service. “Fierce competition” in those regions consisted of “ehh, you could also use your two bars of 3G for home internet. Or get a satellite hookup.” Fierce competition doesn’t exist in this market.
